National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN

Day 1 -  SHS FFA members headed to National Convention! Career Expo and leadership sessions will be held.  Over 60,000 FFA members are expected to attend!

Sweet Treats in Foods and Nutrition I

Food & Nutrition I students at Starmount High School had fun practicing kitchen math, baking colorful sugar cookies, and of course eating too!









Carpentry I, II and III Hard at Work!

Students in Mr. Boles’ Carpentry I, II and III classes at Starmount High School assisted with building 30 custom lockers as well as custom benches for the Starmount girls’ athletics locker facility.  Project includes framing walls, sheeting walls, framing locker bases, custom fabrication of lockers as well as painting the walls prior to locker installation and pre-finishing the lockers with boiled linseed oil.

Students involved are gaining real world, hands on experience!

Breast Cancer Awareness

HOSA & FCCLA brought breast cancer awareness to Starmount by “Forking the Courtyard” against Breast cancer. We educated students on how to perform self exams and when to get a mammogram. Anyone who knows someone who has been effected by breast cancer was able to write names on their fork and place it in the ground in memory or honor of that individual.

 

Health Sciences at Starmount High School

Health Science students are learning about different types of wounds and how to apply first aid.

Students Earn Photoshop Credential

The students pictured below are in Mr. Wagoner's Adobe Visual course at Starmount High School and recently earned certification in Photoshop.  

Photoshop is the predominant photo editing and manipulation software on the market.

Congratulations to these students on their accomplishment!







Agriculture Education at Starmount High School

Mr. Cody Allen teaches Animal Science, Agricultural Mechanics, and Agriscience Applications at Starmount High School.  Below are several of his students getting some hands-on practice.  


Frasisco Rios helps tie string onto batter boards to prepare for a building layout using the 3-4-5 method taught in Agricultural Mechnics I.



Samuel Cheek, Austin Crouse, Xavier Martin, Evan Shore and Jayden Benge spend some time cleaning up the landscaping in the courtyard at Starmount.

Evan Shore and Hunter Royall apply a coat of paint in the courtyard.

These students study the principles of painting and preserving to finish wood 
and metal during the course.


















Electrical Trades Class at Forbush High School

Students in Mr. Cockerham's Electrical Trades I class practice wiring receptacles and switches. Hands-on experience is an important part of many CTE courses.















Food & Nutrition I at Starmount High School

Students in Ms. Ferrelli's Food and Nutrition I class practice measuring.  They are learning equivalent measurements as well as the difference in "level" and "heaping".  Stay tuned...baking lab is coming up Friday!

What Do I Want to Be When I Grow Up?

Students in Ms. Vestal’s Exploring Personal Characteristics and Careers classes at Starmount Middle School are creating career projects to share with the 6th graders.












Health Science Students at Forbush High

Students in Foundations of Health Science are learning about the importance of communication in health care.  Students are placed back to back and asked to provide their partner with instructions to replicate the image provided.  



HOSA officers shop for shoebox supplies for Operation Christmas Child as part of community service and leadership development. Students were provided a budget and had to shop for supplies for boxes within that budget. Students shopped for children of all ages.

PIT U and PIT Weld U Visit Forbush High

Instructors from PIT U and PIT Weld U spoke to Mr. Senter’s automotive students at Forbush High School about their various programs and career opportunities.  They also had an interactive welding lab so the students could get some hands on practice.

The school offers AWS certifications and is located in Mooresville, NC.









Shower Celebration at Forbush High

Students in Mrs. Saddler’s Child Development class wrapped up their objective on Prenatal Development, Healthy Pregnancy and Delivery by having a baby shower, complete with decorations, games and finger foods.  Child Development students planned games and activities for the shower while Food and Nutrition II students helped prepare food.  “Mommies-to-be” were selected by random drawing and they participated by wearing the pregnancy simulator bellies.  Some of the games created by the various groups were “The Price is Right”, “Don’t Say Baby”, “Guess the Baby Food” and “What Am I”.  Students and adults alike seemed to enjoy the shower.
















Load the Fridge Activity at SHS

Students in Ms. Ferrelli's Food & Nutrition I students participated in a "Load the fridge" activity.  This endeavor reviews proper placement of foods in the refrigerator based on their "cook-to" temperatures.





The University of Northern Ohio Visits Forbush High

Mr. Traver, from the University of Northern Ohio, spoke to Automotive students at Forbush High School about career opportunities for their future.  UNOH is one of few schools where students can earn a 4 year degree in Automotive, Diesel and other select technical fields.  UNOH also offers numerous certifications, diplomas and Associate Degree programs in many technical areas.
