The mission of the NC Trout Unlimited chapter like that of TU nationally, is to conserve, protect and restore coldwater fisheries. Throughout North Carolina, the council leads advocacy efforts, fosters widespread understanding of the significance of the coldwater resource and nurtures chapter development and grassroots conservation.
Trout Unlimited partners with high schools to encourage the conservation and protection of coldwater creeks and streams by giving classrooms the resources to raise trout, allowing students to learn about water quality and environmental concerns related to coldwater stream life. Trout Unlimited hosts release field days in cooperation with state park services for students to release the trout they have raised. Programs are put on the field day including: water quality, fly fishing, a macroinvertebrate search to encourage students to learn about aquatic life in fresh cold water streams.
Mr. Calloway's Ag Science class raised
trout as a part of the program and the students managed to release 16 trout and
participate in the trout release day.
