Careers on Wheels Event

Yadkin County Schools 5th grade students had the chance to see a number of different vehicles and trucks during the Surry Community College / Surry-Yadkin Works "Careers on Wheels" event. This event was held Friday, September 26 on the Yadkin Campus of Surry Community College.

This event was a fun, hands-on way for our students to learn more about the business opportunities in our area. Special thanks to all the businesses that participated and to Surry Community College and Surry-Yadkin Works staff for organizing this awesome event for our 5th grade students!

Animal Science Students Dissect Perch

The students in Mr. Allen’s Animal Science II class got to dive deep into their Perch Dissection Unit at SHS. They learned about internal and external anatomy and had to ID the location, name and the function of each part of the perch. They also got to remove eggs and scales from the fish and explore them under a microscope. They had to count the rings on a fish’s scales to age the fish. They also removed the egg sac which can contain thousands of tiny eggs.

Next up will be fetal pig dissection.
