The Yadkin County Cooperative Extension office hosted Environmental Field Days for 6th grade students from Forbush and Starmount Middle Schools on September 24 and 25 at the Yadkin YMCA. Students had a great time learning about a wide variety of topics, including taxidermy, forestry, composting, horticulture, insects, apples, recycling, and soil composition.

FHS CTE Teachers Participate in PLT Meeting
Teachers at Forbush High School met on Friday, September 20th
in their monthly PLT meeting. The theme of
this meeting was collaboration.
All teachers participated in a team puzzle activity and then
Maggie Sizemore shared a Tech Tool, classroomscreen.com with the group.
Also, Kyle Matthews discussed some strategies and tips for
working with our EC and OCS students.

WCC Instructors Visit Forbush High Automotive Class
Jamie Reavis and Jonah Severt from Wilkes Community College,
spoke with Mr. Senter’s Automotive Service II class on Thursday, September 19th.
Mr. Reavis is the WCC Transportation Technology Chairperson and
an Instructor in the Collision Repair and Refinishing program.
Mr. Severt is the Lead Heavy Equipment Operator Instructor
and Diesel Technology Instructor.
The Heavy Equipment Operator Program is scheduled to begin
at WCC in the Fall of 2025 and is only the second HEO diploma program in the state.

FMS Students Launch Rockets
Students in Mr. Buckingham’s class are learning about Flight & Drone Technology through the Paxton-Patterson College & Career Ready Labs. Our students designed and built paper rockets for our Paper Rocket Launch Day at FMS. We learned about Newton's Third Law: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Our students discussed and observed how rocket designs impact the flight trajectory of each rocket.

Starmount FFA Students Assist with Tractor Supply’s Grand Opening
Several of the SHS FFA members joined with Tractor Supply of
Yadkinville to celebrate their Grand Opening on Saturday September 14th. They
passed out hats and other freebies to shoppers and greeted people as they
entered the new store.
Members present were FFA officers Cody Brandon, Colton Allen
and Baylee Childress.
