Shout Out to Our Career and Technical Education Teachers - It's CTE Month!

In recognition of CTE Month, we would like to express our gratitude to our Career and Technical Education teachers and thank them for all that they do to encourage our students and prepare them for the next chapter in their lives beyond their high school careers.

These teachers bring real-world, hands-on experiences into their classrooms.


Mr. Jay Brendle teaches Drafting I, Drafting II & III – Architectural, and Drafting II & III – Engineering at Forbush High School. Mr. Brendle brings his past drafting experience into the classroom to help prepare his students for college and careers in the drafting field.

 


Mrs. Lawanda Brown is a retired teacher returned to Forbush High School this year to teach Principles of Family and Human Services on a part-time basis.  She utilizes hands-on activities and other successful strategies in her classroom

 


Mr. Steven Calloway teaches courses in the Agriculture program area at Forbush High.  These courses include Animal Science I & II, Horticulture I & II and Agriscience.  Mr. Calloway’s program has a barn on the school campus where students gain hands on practice to prepare for future careers and higher education in the Agriculture field.  Mr. Calloway also serves as the FFA Advisor for FHS.

 


Mr. Jason Cockerham teaches courses at Forbush in the Construction program area.  Courses include Construction Core and Electrical Trades I, II and III.  Mr. Cockerham is preparing students in Construction Core to move into the Carpentry classes or the Electrical Trades courses---or both!  Students gain lots of hands-on practice with Mr. Cockerham.

 


Mr. Seth Davis teaches courses in the Business, Computer Science and Information Technology programs at Forbush High School.  These courses include Microsoft Word & PowerPoint, CompTIA Fundamentals, and Python Programming among others.  Mr. Davis’s classes also have the opportunity to earn credentials.  Mr. Davis also serves as the head coach for the men’s soccer team at FHS.

 


Mrs. Angie Funk teaches Business and Marketing classes at Forbush High.  Courses include Marketing, Sport & Event Marketing I & II and Microsoft Excel, where students are able to earn an industry recognized credential.  Mrs. Funk also teaches a virtual Business Essentials course for the Yadkin Success Academy, and also serves at the DECA advisor for the FHS Chapter. 

 


Mr. Gray Harris teaches Construction courses at Forbush High, which includes Construction Core and Carpentry I, II and III.  Mr. Harris brings lots of hands-on, real world experience into his classroom and lab where he prepares students for careers or higher education in the construction field.

 


Mr. Daniel Hutchens teaches Electronics and Computer Engineering courses at Forbush High.  Mr. Hutchens’ students learn through hands-on practice activities and other successful strategies in the classroom.  Mr. Hutchens also plays a major role in graduation and other senior activities.

 


Mrs. Michelle Saddler teaches Family and Consumer Science courses at FHS.  Her courses this year included Apparel I & II and Child Development.  Mrs. Saddler is working toward bringing the Early Childhood Education courses to FHS in the fall.  Mrs. Saddler also serves as an FCCLA advisor.

 


Mr. Keith Senter teaches the Automotive courses at Forbush High which include Automotive Service Fundamentals and Automotive Service I, II and III.  Students are exposed to real world jobs by various guest speakers, field trips, as well as plenty of hands-on practice.  Mr. Senter also serves as the SkillsUSA Advisor for the FHS Chapter.

 

Ms. Maggie Sizemore teaches Family and Consumer Science courses at Forbush High.  This year, Ms. Sizemore has taught Food & Nutrition I & II.  Students have the opportunity to earn varying levels of ServSafe credentials in each of these courses.  Ms. Sizemore also serves as an FCCLA Advisor to the FHS Chapter.

 


Mrs. Adrianna Sloan, RN, BSN, teaches Health Science courses at Forbush High.  Courses include Foundations of Health Science and Health Science I & II.  Students in these courses have the opportunity to earn credentials, such as CPR, First Aid and Stop the Bleed.  Mrs. Sloan is the HOSA Advisor for the FHS chapter.  She also has state-level responsibilities for the NC Chapter of HOSA.  She was also last year’s Yadkin County Schools CTE Teacher of the Year.



Mr. Bryan Buckingham teaches Business and Technology courses to all grade levels at Forbush Middle School.  His classes include Exploring Personal Characteristics and Careers, Computer Science Discoveries and Coding in Minecraft, which is a new course at FMS this year.



Mr. Russ Caudill also teachers Business and Technology courses at FMS.  His classes include Exploring Personal Characteristics and Careers and Computer Science Discoveries.  Mr. Caudle previously taught Business and Information Technology courses at Forbush High.



Mr. Kelly Hicks teaches Business courses at Forbush Middle School.  His classes include Keyboarding and Basic Word Processing, Introduction to Office Productivity, and Office Productivity Applications.  Mr. Hicks teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.



Mr. Cody Allen teaches Agriculture courses at Starmount High School.  Mr. Allen’s experience enables his students to learn about careers and get hands-on practice in the fields of Agriscience, Agriculture Mechanics as well as Animal Science.  Mr. Allen also serves as the FFA Advisor for the SHS Chapter.



Mr. Ryan Boles teaches Construction courses at Starmount.  Mr. Boles brings his years of work experience into his classroom and shop.  Students learn about careers in Carpentry and Masonry and gain hands-on skills while taking these classes.  Mr. Boles also coaches Baseball.

 


Ms. Olivia Ferrelli teaches Food and Nutrition courses and also Career Management at Starmount.  Ms. Ferrelli’s students learn from hands-on foods labs as well as from taste-testing foods they may not otherwise have been exposed to.  Ms. Ferrelli also brings experience from several career fields into her classroom.


Ms. Nicole Pardue teaches various business courses at Starmount, including Entrepreneurship and Microsoft Office courses.  Students have the opportunity to earn credentials in Word, PowerPoint as well as Excel as a part of these classes.  Nicole is also the basketball coach for Starmount’s ladies’ teams.

 


Mr. Sandy Martin teaches Automotive courses at Starmount.  He brings years of experience into his classroom and shop and teaches courses from Fundamentals to the advanced Automotive Service III Honors course.  Mr. Martin also invites several guest speakers into his classroom to expose his students to the various jobs in the Automotive field.  Mr. Martin also serves as the SkillsUSA Advisor for the SHS Chapter.

 

 


Mrs. Natalie Matthews, MSN-Ed, RN is new to Starmount this semester but brings years of experience as an Registered Nurse into her classroom.  Classes in the Health Science pathway include Foundations of Health Science and Health Science I & II.  Mrs. Matthews instruction will give students hands on practice and will enable them to earn their CPR, First Aid and Stop the Bleed certifications.  Mrs. Matthews will also serve as the HOSA Advisor for the SHS Chapter.



Mrs. Lynne Trivette teaches a variety of Family and Consumer Science courses at Starmount, including Child Development, Apparel and Interior Design.  In her Child Development course, students get a glimpse of what it’s like to care for and infant as they are responsible for a baby simulator for several days.



Mr. Jeffrey Tutterow teaches courses in several program areas at Starmount.  The courses include Construction, Drafting, Digital Design and Animation as well as Game Art Design.  By Mr. Tutterow’s ability to provide this variation of courses, student opportunities at Starmount are increased.



Mr. Rodney Wagoner teaches Computer Science and Business Education courses at Starmount.  Classes include Adobe Visual, Adobe Digital and Adobe Video Design courses, as well as Business Law and Business Essentials.  He also provides virtual instruction for students at the Yadkin Success Academy.  Mr. Wagoner also serves as a Swim Team coach and assists with Women’s Soccer. 



Mrs. Melanie Matthews teaches Exploring Business and Entrepreneurship and Keyboarding and Basic Word Processing at Starmount Middle.  Before Starmount Middle, Mrs. Matthews taught Business and Marketing at Starmount High School.  



Mr. Isaac Rose is new this year to CTE and teaches Exploring Business and Entrepreneurship and Keyboarding and Basic Word Processing at Starmount Middle.  Mr. Rose is also the coach for girls’ basketball.



Mrs. Melinda Vestal teaches Exploring Personal Characteristics and Careers to eighth grade students at Starmount Middle School.  Before teaching at SMS, Mrs. Vestal taught Career Management and Principles of Business at the Yadkin Success Academy.
