Agricultural Mechanics Students Learn About Welding

Students in Mr. Allen’s Ag Mechanics class at Starmount High School enjoy learning all about welding. They have been practicing making beads, learning about safety, metal ID, types of welding joints, and symbols and positions.

Forsyth Tech Visits Starmount High

John Klapmeyer from Forsyth Tech came to speak with students taking classes in the Automotive Pathway at Starmount High School about related careers and the programs offered at Forsyth Tech. 

Programs include Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology, Automotive Systems Technology and Race Car Technology.

SkillsUSA Trunk or Treat

SkillsUSA members participated in the annual Trunk or Treat at Starmount High School in support of our community on Tuesday, October 28th.

Members had a lot of fun seeing kids and passing out treats!



 

Nascar Tech Visits Starmount High

Mr. Matt Eller from Universal Technical Institute, also known as Nascar Tech, spoke to students in Mr. Martin’s Automotive classes this week.

UTI offers programs in Automotive, Diesel, Collision Repair, Airframe & Powerplant, Welding, HVAC and more.

CTE Visits SCC

CTE teachers and staff from Forbush and Starmount were given the opportunity to learn more about the different programs offered through Surry Community College during this year's CTE Teacher Career Development Day! Teachers visited SCC on Friday, October 10, and spoke with SCC staff about the numerous career and workforce training opportunities available for our high school students. Thank you to Sherry White (SCC CTE Coordinator) and Ashley Morrison (Vice President of Instruction & Student Services) for organizing this informative event!

































Starmount Student Receives Scholarship

Reid Frazier won a $1000 scholarship over the summer from the American Red Cross Leaders Save Lives program for hosting his own blood drive!

Forbush High School Students Visit SCC

Forbush Students Visit SCC

FHS students in Mr. Walker's Construction classes visited Surry Community College for Advanced Manufacturing Day. They toured several departments on campus, including Wiring, Welding, Carpentry, Machining, DC/AC Electricity, Hydraulics/Pneumatics, and HVAC. Students also attended a job fair where they made connections with local employers. While at SCC, our Career Development Coordinator Mrs. Hayes saw several former Forbush students that are currently enrolled at SCC. Forbush intern alumni included Christopher Mendoza Perez and Lucas Pettit. 

Also, WXII was at the Job Fair during today’s Advanced Manufacturing Day, and there are several shots in the news clip of our Forbush students! Here is the link:

Tulsa Welding and UNOH Visit Starmount High

Shane McFall, a representative from Tulsa Welding school, came to speak to my classes on September 30th about College and Careers. Tulsa also has other programs including HVAC & Building Services, HVAC, Construction and Architecture, and Electrical Applications.


Don Lowden, a representative from UNOH (University of Northwestern Ohio) came to speak to my students on October 8th. He talked about Careers and College. They offer a lot of career paths including Automotive, Diesel, and High-Performance Industries, as well as degrees in Business, Health, Marketing, and Information Technology, Agricultural Equipment, Technology, Robotics and Automation.

Forbush High Students Learn About FFA

In this first picture, students who had learned about FFA (Future Farmers of America) contests and opportunities through the FFA were teaching their friends about their assigned contest during lunch.
