YCS is excited to announce that Jason Cockerham has been selected as the 2024 Yadkin County Schools CTE Teacher of the Year!
Please join me in congratulating Mr. Cockerham and wish him the best of luck as he moves forward to the regional CTE Teacher of the Year competition!
The chicks in Mr. Andrew’s room at Starmount High are starting to hatch! Here are some pics of classes dying their chicks and a few that have hatched out so far.
Several students from Forbush, Starmount and Yadkin Early College had the opportunity to visit Showcase Yadkin presented by the Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce and Hugh Chatham Health on March 21st. This event was held at the Yadkin County Agricultural and Education Building.
Students were able to discuss the various businesses in the county and surrounding counties with the representatives, collect some free items and be entered for door prize drawings.
Students learned about job possibilities and other services that may be of help to them as they complete their high school education and look toward their next steps after high school graduation.
Thank you to the Chamber and the business leaders that took time to communicate with the students of Yadkin County!
The CTE Business Advisory Committee met on Tuesday, March 19th at Forbush Middle School. During that meeting members visited Mr. Bryan Buckingham’s lab/classroom. This classroom contains several hands-on labs purchased from Paxton-Patterson. The labs include Criminalistics, Electrical, Veterinary, Hospitality, Nursing/Healthcare and others.
The Business Advisory Committee is a group of community, business and education leaders in Yadkin County. This committee meets twice a year to discuss how we can improve CTE in Yadkin County and how they can support those continued improvements.
Thank you to these members for their support of Yadkin County Schools and thanks to Mr. Buckingham for sharing his class with them!
Ricky Swing from PIT Weld presented to students at Forbush on March 20, 2024. He also set up welding labs in Mr. Senter’s shop and some students were able to experience some firsthand practice.
Students from other CTE classes interested in the welding field
were able to attend as well.

Drone 2 students in Mr. Wagoner’s class at Starmount flew an autonomous flight with the DJI Air 2S Drone and captured photos of the school.
The students are learning how to use ArcGis Drone2Map
software after capturing their images with the drone.
