Environmental Field Days

Yadkin County 4-H hosted 6th grade students from Forbush Middle School and Starmount Middle School on September 28 and 29 for "Environmental Field Days." Students had the chance to learn about a wide variety of topics, including insects, soil composition, recycling, fruits, plants, honey bees, and more!

Accounting Specialists Present to Starmount Middle School Students

Stephanie Gray and Dana Ladd, Accounting Specialists with Yadkin County Schools, presented to Mrs. Matthews’ Exploring Business and Entrepreneurship classes on Wednesday, September 28th.  They had students participate in an interactive lesson where they discussed a Chart of Accounts, a General Ledger and taught the students how to correctly write a check, while using scenarios that related to them as SMS students. 

Students were very engaged and Mrs. Gray and Mrs. Ladd were very encouraging to the students as they complimented and bragged on how well the students participated.  They also rewarded them for their participation by giving the students pencils and Smarties J

Mrs. Matthews Hosts Guest Speaker at Starmount Middle

 Allison Ball, a mortgage officer with Carolina Farm Credit, visited Mrs. Matthews’ Exploring Business and Entrepreneurship classes on Friday, September 23rd.  She talked about different aspects of credit and how important a Credit Score—“the report card that follows you for life”—is for both personal and business dealings. 

A big thank you to her for sharing her expertise with our students!

Starmount Middle School Students Learn About Accounting

Students in Mrs. Matthews' Exploring Business and Entrepreneurship classes work as accountants on their Lemonade Stand project.

Students have to create a lemonade recipe, account for purchasing supplies and set a price for selling their product.  Income and expenses are entered on a ready-made spreadsheet and they determine after 14 days if they have had an income or loss.

Great example of real- world learning! 





Starmount High School Agriscience Students Serve Their School

Students in Mr. Allen's Agriscience class work on trimming trees/bushes and removing weeds and debris from Starmount HS courtyard.

They enjoy taking pride in keeping their campus looking great!






UTI/NASCAR Tech Visits Forbush High School

UTI presented to students in the Automotive program at Forbush High School. UTI offers training in Automotive, Diesel, Motorcycle Mechanics as well as Welding Technology, Machining and more!

Starmount High School Hosts American Red Cross Blood Drive

Starmount HOSA partnered with the American Red Cross on September 13, 2022, to host a blood drive in the Starmount High School gymnasium. The blood drive was successful by collecting 106 units of blood which may save 318 lives.



















Forbush Automotive Department Gets New Equipment

Forbush Auto/Skills gets new welding equipment thanks to a $7500.00 grant from Lowes/SkillsUSA.

New Technology for CPR Training

New Brayden “Light-up” Manikins have been purchased for the Health Science programs at Forbush and Starmount High Schools.  The red light indicators on the manikins indicate simulated blood flow with high quality compressions while completing CPR.
